The Potential Dogs of the Dow for 2021

The Dogs of the Dow is one of the most popular New Year strategies.

With this strategy, investors are simply buying the 10 Dow stocks that yield that highest dividends, and have also underperformed the market.

While 2020 didn’t produce many winners among the Dogs, that’s not often the case.  For example, the Dogs returned nearly 20% in 2019. In 2018, the Dogs of the Dow saw a tiny 1% gain, as the Dow lost 5.6% for the year, according to Forbes.

For 2021, the 10 top Dogs of the Dow could include:

  • Chevon (CVX) with a yield of 6.05%
  • IBM (IBM) with a yield of 5.23%
  • Dow (DOW) with a yield of 5.11%
  • Walgreens (WBA) with a yield of 4.72%
  • Verizon (VZ) with a yield of 4.27%
